Bible Journaling | 3 of my favorite supplies to get you started

I took up Bible-journaling about a year ago as a way to really meditate on God's word. If you follow me on Instagram, you will notice that I post my Bible-journaling images every Sunday. It combines my love of the Word, my love for typography & photography, and my love of black pens. ;)  I've been asked a lot lately about what Bible I use and what supplies I recommend, so I thought I'd share with you my favorite three supplies to get you started.

Choose a beautiful Bible for your Bible journaling. And here's three of my favorite supplies to get you started.First of all, I chose is the ESV Single column Bible Journal by Crossway. You can purchase it here. I chose this particular cover because I wanted a timeless look and leather wears so well. This same version also comes in other styles, such as a pretty floral print, a few different hardcover options, and more. It just depends on your taste and price point.Choose a beautiful Bible for your Bible journaling. And here's three of my favorite supplies to get you started. Some Bible-journalers go all out and use colored pens, markers, highlighters, and watercolors. Oooh, stencils too!  Some of them are really quite beautiful, but I wanted to stay true to myself and keep things clean and simple. So I just keep my work black and white. But you be you, and if color is your thing, go for it!Choose a beautiful Bible for your Bible journaling. And here's three of my favorite supplies to get you started.

Pencils:

I first use pencil to sketch my design right in the margin. I like these tombow professional drawing pencils because that's what I got used to using in design school. They come in all different strengths from hard to soft, hard being the lightest and soft graphite making the darkest mark. You really don't NEED these. Any old pencil would do if you're looking to save.

Pens:

After I'm satisfied with the placement and design of my piece, I ink it with black pen. My faves are micron! LOVE these pens. They glide right over these smooth pages like butter. They come in all different sizes. I like to get them in this set because they come in a variety of thicknesses, which tend to be useful for almost any project.Choose a beautiful Bible for your Bible journaling. And here's three of my favorite supplies to get you started.I keep all my supplies in this little old wooden caddy I picked up a garage sale years ago. It works for me, even though my kiddos took to it with the color crayons a few years back. It's great for toting room to room depending on where I end up working. (Usually, the sun room. It has the best light.)  I'msure you could use a simple pen case or mason jars, or whatever else floats your boat.Choose a beautiful Bible for your Bible journaling. Sometimes I like to add the date to certain pieces especially if it really spoke to my heart during a certain season of my life.Choose a beautiful Bible for your Bible journaling. So, I get it. Sometimes it's just easier. If you're interested in seeing more of my hand-lettering, feel free to find me on Instagram.
